Message from the Chair – Spring 2020

At this time of the year we would usually be looking forward to welcoming Spring, the arrival of the profusion of colourful flowers to enliven our downtown and the start up of the weekly Farmers’ Market.

Instead it seems that everything has come to a sudden standstill and we are talking about self isolation, cancellations, daily bulletins about the advance of COVID-19 and all the uncertainty.   We are worried about our businesses and our employees.

On March 18th the Town of Caledon and the Region of Peel, like the Province, declared states of emergency.  This will give the Town access to financial and other resources as needed.   Please see the Town’s website for daily bulletins regarding closures and adjustment of services.   The Town Hall is closed but continues to offer phone and email services.

Caledon Community Services offers several ways for us to help the less fortunate.  Check their website.

Meantime, the flowers have been ordered and are growing in the nursery.    Plans for the Farmers’ Market are well under way.   Our dedicated committee has exciting new ideas for theme days throughout the summer to support the farmers and vendors.

We will get through this.   I hope that, before too long I will be back bragging about the gorgeous flowers downtown and the abundant local produce offered at the Farmers’ Market.   Meantime, look after yourselves and your neighbours, be safe.

Jean Carberry, Chair Bolton BIA
